Fish Union has changed. What started as ‘fishmonger first restaurant second’ became ‘restaurant first and fishmonger second’. And in 2025 it became Fish Union Bar & Grill, a beautiful restaurant, cocktail bar and kitchen with an extended menu with not just fish, but also meat and vegetarian dishes. However, our focus on sustainability and quality is still at the fore of everything we do.

Our Story

Richard Kirkwood and Andy Roberts met working in Caprice Holdings, at the world famous J-Sheekey. After a number of years (And promotions) they both went their separate ways before being reunited at Wright Brothers, where they worked until the pandemic of 2020.

Fish Union started life as a pop-up fishmonger during the pandemic when, like many of us, Richard and Andy found themselves pondering their futures. Spotting a clear opportunity, they joined forces and set about bringing fresh fish and seafood to Londoners, initially in Chislehurst and then in Mile End.

When a permanent site became available in Chislehurst, they jumped at it and opened a permanent fishmonger with a difference – they also offered a dine-in experience with a fully licensed drinks offering.

Over time, the restaurant became more and more the focus for guests, and in 2024 it was decided that the Fishmonger counter had to go. Also at this time, Fish Union agreed a residency at The Seafood Bar at Rye Fish Market, serving the freshest fish and seafood from the market alongside great drinks.

At this point Jhonnie joined the team, having previously worked with both Richard and Andy. Jhonnie brought the front of house operations and bar experience to complete the team.

The newest iteration of the restaurant was unveiled in March of 2025 and featured a cocktail bar and a new menu including meat and vegetarian options as well as vegan dishes.
